A warm and generous provider, Dr Villanova enjoys applying her insights and experience in allopathy, medical acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and Ayurveda to integrate biological, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of individual and group healing/understanding
Her special areas of clinical interest lie in complex neurological & pain management issues: she applies expertise in Traditional Chinese Medicine to conditions such as ALS, MS, post-stroke recovery, Guillain-Barré, TBI etc as well as to musculoskeletal/peripheral etiologies of pain (low back pain, headache/migraine, osteoarthritis, disc related issues/ neuropathy, phantom limb pain, complex regional pain syndrome etc). She has extended training in specialized acupuncture: Neurological Scalp acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, as well a highly effective technique for IgE–mediated allergy desensitization (allergy, asthma, eczema, eosinophilic esophagitis)
Appointed Physician Advisor to the North Carolina Acupuncture Licensing Board and board certified in Family Medicine & Medical Acupuncture, she’s owned, operated and medical directed medical practices since the early 2000s, served as the Associate Medical Director of a Sports Medicine/ Pain Management practice, provided Pediatric, Adult Medicine & Obstetrical clinical services, and taught as clinical faculty at the New York Presbyterian & St Joseph’s hospitals. She has lectured on Acupuncture and Ayurveda for UNC Medical School’s alternative medicine curriculum, and has served as an allopathic and Asian medical consultant on Sirus Satellite Radio
These days, Dr Villanova focuses more on practice ownership, medical directing, and consulting responsibilities; she has limited her direct patient care practice to allergy and complex neurological/pain conditions. Additionally, she is applying current concepts in neuroscience to not only her practice, but also to her art
When not working with patients or as a medical director, she conceives, writes and executes music, theatre and film productions in New York City, and is a published essayist and poet
